I hadn’t given it much thought, but this may be why some literary critics has dissed what social media and texting have done to written communication. I always assumed their complaint had more to do with sloppy grammar and spelling, but it may also have something to do with lack of idea development. That is, people just slapping ideas together without really crafting their ideas, without doing the work of finding the best ways to present their thoughts or arguments.
