Interesting remarks, especially the (sad) story of the frozen “snowmen.”
My father enlisted in the army at the end of WW2 and was sent to the Philippines, then deployed to Korea. The day before being deployed his duffle bag with blankets and was stolen (it had been chained to his bunk but someone cut it off.
He was surprised at how cold it was in Korea… 20 below (if I remember correctly) when he first arrived and not ready for it at all.
Our American hubris almost cost us all of Korea…. It’s a war we little understand because (A) our story is embarrassing to tell so we place it in a closet, and (B) it’s complicated, so it’s not easy to summarize. Your “three movements” is a good concise summary though. Thanks
