Lived in Mexico for a year, and travelled some. We were among the poorer folk and use “toilets” where there was no toilet, just a hole in the ground.
I remember one village where we visited some people and the bathroom was essentially a little stick hut surrounding a hole on the ground about 10 inches across. What was remarkable, though, was how they decorated the shack with coffee cans with flowers, and kept the dirt floor neatly swept.
The gas stations never had toilet paper, so you could use the toilets but come prepared.
Many more stories could be told, but thanks for the insight regarding Europe. An informative read.
