No question the Cold War brought the Nuclear anhilation fear closer to the surface. In the Fifties and Sixties we practiced air raid drills in school, like fire drills. That certainly brings it home to you… and Iknew people who had bomb shelters in their basements.

As long as the missiles are around there is going to be a concern of their misuse. (or use)

Since reality is mediated to us through Media, it’s hard to know how much the terrorism threat is real right now.

Interesting take on the “family breakdown” issue. There is probably some of that. There are other factors contributing as well though, including unrealistic expectations about what a long-term committed relationship should feel like. The impacts on children are downplayed as well, so we don’t “feel bad.”
