CHRISTMAS TIDINGS
O Tannenbaum
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!
Du grünst nicht nur zur Sommerzeit,
Nein auch im Winter, wenn es schneit.
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!

O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
How loyal are your leaves!
You’re green not only in the summertime,
No, also in winter when it snows.
O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
How loyal are your leaves!
Singing can be a fun way to learn a language. We learned to sing O Tannenbaum in German class when I was in Junior High. Years later we learned a lot of Spanish through singing hymns and coritos in Mexico while working at an orphanage.
My first Christmas in Mexico we visited a missionary in Matehuala. His family had a Christmas tree in the living room and he spoke about all the various meanings contained in this singular symbol.
It seems like a good day to say little and reflect much, to share a space of time with loved ones. For an interesting backstory on the Christmas tree tradition check out this page of notes at History.com. Be sure to study hard. There will be a test afterwards.
May all your Holidays be bright!
