The book sounds interesting. The U.S. legacy is indeed tragic when you look at its treatment of Black, Native and Hispanic populations.

I have written several times about General/President U.S. Grant, who was a captain in the Mexican War and felt it a totally unjust war. What a contrast between his sensitivity to other races and Jackson’s.

Grant had appointed a Native American whom he had become friends with in the Civil War to head the Bureau of Indian Affairs, but this did not last because of “insider politics” in Washington. Our horrendous treatment of the indigenous tribal peoples is a dark stain on our nation’s history.

Jackson penned the edict that became the Trail of Tears, another travesty. It’s difficult to properly process all this to even know how to repsond.

Anyways… thanks for the book recommendation.
