FAME
Wilde Observations #13
A tossed salad of poetry, art and ideas.

“Life imitates art far more than art imitates Life.” — Oscar Wilde
Why I Will Never Be Famous
It just so happens
that I’ve had the misfortune
of having a name too similar
to someone else who was famous:
Edwin Newman.
At least he was famous for a time and a half time.
Maybe he’s not even famous any more.
Do you remember Edwin Newman?
He was a newscaster when I was young.
He wrote a book called Strictly Speaking:
Will America be the Death of English?
He died about nine years ago.
If you don’t remember him, then probably
one day they’ll forget about me, too,
even before they remember me,
whoever “they” are.
