FREE SPEECH
Wilde Observations #2
A tossed salad of poetry, art and ideas.

“In the old days men had the rack. Now they have the Press. That is an improvement certainly. but still it is very bad, and wrong, and demoralizing.” — Oscar Wilde
Whatever Happened to Free Speech?
The first principle of a free society is an untrammeled flow of words in an open forum. — Adlai E. Stevenson
“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” — Voltaire
“If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all.” — Noam Chomsky
These beliefs from the past are being over-ridden by a new hostility to open dialogue. In one survey nearly three-fifths of all respondents stated that today’s political climate prevents them from sharing their views. Times have changed.
