Yes, great advice for a variety of applications.

I began a dream diary in 7th grade and kept it up till I went to college, writing my waking thoughts (dreams) as soon as I awoke. I did not know then that I was developing a writer’s discipline.

Later I began journaling daily and when blogging came along, all those decades of journal writing became fodder for blogging daily.

F Scott Fitzgerald had his writer’s notebooks… as do many other writers.
Ronald Reagan used to keep his scraps in a cigar box that he carried around with him. Every little news story trigger went in the box and he then turned the anecdotes into fodder for daily radio talks that led to his 1980 election.
My son is a chef and he tries out new recipes on mom and dad, then recrds them, noting what worked.
